Literature:
Sacha Llewellyn & Richard Sorrell (ed), Alan Sorrell; the Life and Works of an English Neo-Romantic Artist, (Bristol: Sansom & Co.) 2013, pp.70-77.

This is a working study undertaken in Rome for a composition called the Traveller, which went through the various stages of sketch and was eventually carried out as a finished oil painting.
Sorrell attended the evening life-classes at the British Academy of the Arts
whilst in Rome. He described the life room as ‘small and always overheated’ and the
other students as ‘uninspired elderly women who swathed themselves in peculiarly grimy overalls of no particular color’.
