In its bright palette this self-portrait, dating to the  Sorrell second marriage, strikes  an usually optimistic note.  Setting up his new home in disused Chapel, at Dawes Heath, Sorrell created an ideal studio, relishing the north-south orientation of the large hall, with its small Vestry  attached at the far end.
